Project 1:AI Typeface:Horsey

Horsey: A Typographic Exploration of AI and Storytelling

Horsey is a typeface that transforms storytelling into a typographic system, inspired by the comic character Horseyhorse, created by Ava Deng. This project explores the intersection of AI-driven generative typography and hand-drawn letterforms, questioning the role of artificial intelligence in creative authorship and typographic evolution.

The foundational letterforms were initially sketched by hand, capturing the organic and expressive nature of Horseyhorse’s world. These drawings were then processed using a custom AI toolset, which analyzed typographic idiosyncrasies and generated alternative variations. By leveraging AI’s capacity to systematize aesthetic logic, Horsey extends beyond a single typeface into a speculative typographic ecosystem—one where machine learning and human intuition collaboratively shape letterforms.

This project aligns with contemporary discussions on AI as a creative agent, challenging traditional notions of authorship and design iteration. Through AI-assisted prototyping, Horsey examines how language, form, and narrative can merge into a dynamic, ever-evolving typographic identity.
